课程介绍

This course is mainly about the Cultural Comparison between China and the West. The definitions, characteristics, essentials and layers of culture are discussed as an introduction. The first nine weeks focus on the difference and complementary between Western and Chinese cultures in terms of worldviews, core values, thinking modes, languages, social customs, literature and soft power, etc.

《中西文化比较与会通》是关于中西文化对比的课题。主要从讨论文化的定义、特性、要素及层次入手，聚焦中西文化中关于世界观、核心价值、思维模式、语言文字、社会习俗、文学艺术以及软实力等宏观话题，观察两者之间的差异和互补。

课程大纲

学习目标

This course aims to help the students to raise the cultural awareness by talking about the difference and complementary between Western and Chinese cultures.

本课程旨在通过对比中西文化的差异和互补，帮助学生提高文化敏感度，从而更进一步了解文化差异，建立跨文化交际能力。

课程以教师的讲座作为内容依托，学生通过阅读和观看一系列基于文化话题的文章和PPT材料等相应的文化输入、以小组为单位进行基于文化话题的辩论和报告写作等，从而在提高自身的语言技能基础以及语言综合运用能力的基础上，掌握必要的跨文化交际技能。

学习要求

The students are supposed to get more understanding about the comparison approach so as to build up the cross-cultural communication ability.

本课程要求学生在完成相应的课程学习后，能对中西文化的重要话题有基本的了解，通过对比对中西文化有更加清晰的认识，从而帮助学生成为中西方文化的沟通使者。

考核标准

Final grading=Achievement test(Usual performance): 40%+Final exam: 60%

Attendence: 50%
Topics for discussion: 30%;
Mid-term presentation: 20%;

本课程采用形成性和终结性相结合的考核评估方式，课程成绩以百分制计，其中形成性评价占40%的比例，包括课堂参与，小组讨论、作业报告等学习任务完成的质量是考核评估的重要指标。
